“Starting your AI adventure? Strap in and hold onto your neurons — it’s a wild ride through the binary jungle!”
by ChatGPT
Hey! I believe this is the point where one should introduce themselves, so Hi, I am Eszter Farkas an, I would say aspiring but I have been told one should not say that, AI Engineer (maybe).
To give a bit wider context for the story let me tell you about my education. Interested in anything but not particularly passionate about other than doing great in the most things I can possibly do. I had a pretty hard time choosing a university. After some back and forth swings between architecture, chemical engineer and what not I have been persuaded by my math teacher that my greatest aspiration in life is being a math teacher. She has seen so much in me for which I am very grateful, but as the first hour of the practical teaching of the pedagogy module has shown, I am indeed not cut out for the teacher role. Nevertheless, the path has been made. I have joined the Mathematics and Informatics department of my local university, and I chose the specialization of Mathematics and Informatics due to the fact that it was said to be the hardest, and because my mother said so. 🙂
Given that the career direction was very much suggested by outside parties I find it quite fortunate that they have seen this good fit for me, because I found much joy in the interesting math and informatics classes, met like-minded individuals and could used the structure and precision required by interacting with these sciences to organize the chaos in my head. From then on the path laid ahead me lead to completing a master’s degree in Data Analytics and Modeling, thus bringing my interest a bit closer.
In this setting, it is not unusual that I have had exposure to Machine Learning and AI, though I have skirted around them and did not completed neither of my diploma thesis using AI, it has nagged around my consciousness. My interest has ignited and waned in the last few years, though life circumstances have lead me experimenting in other directions and actually working in AI, Data Science or Analytics in my country has seemed unattainable.
The big AI hype made me aware of many opportunities around me to use the knowledge I gathered during uni and I might just want to get back into the learning and exploring new areas of data science.
For the sake of accountability I have decided on documenting my learning journey. I will focus on finding free resources and building an effective learning process combined with idly going after interesting train of thoughts or materials in any shape or form, sharing with you the most exciting parts. I enjoy reading about theory and how things work and all kinds of usage so expect a considerable amount of reading material, but there are hands-on projects coming that I will be happy to share with you.
My main interests in this topic would be on how to use, and not misuse, Artificial Intelligence in our daily life. I am interested in how we can use this technology to solve all kinds of problems starting from optimizing my shopping list to match the product placement in my local grocery shop to how we can design energy efficient ways to reduce overconsumption. With the rise of highly capable generative models we are at risk of more advanced cyber attacks and this would yet again be a highly interesting and useful topic to explore.
If you would like to join me on this messy ride of finding out if I really like what an AI Engineer does you are welcome to follow and reach out! Lets start diving into the topics!
