Hi, my name is Donovan. I’m 24 I also have blue-collar worker, been working in the fire alarm/life safety. Worked in the field 5+ years so far I enjoyed it for a bit learning low voltage logic and troubleshooting fire alarm panels. I had a middle school elective which was on coding css and html I really enjoyed that class even though I was 12–13 But since I was a kid I’ve always been into gaming, computers, and tech related things.
I wanted to start a blog about my journey into coding. I’m starting off with Python, this will be my third attempt into trying to switch careers by learning coding. My goal is to accomplish this within the next year. From my previous attempts of trying to learn coding I’ve learned that, consistency is key. So I decided I needed to create a schedule as if I’m going to the gym and stick to it.
I’m not sure if I had a epiphany after playing Sekiro (Dark souls type game created by the same people). But after beating that I had to re-teach myself that things aren’t going to be learned on the first attempt. It’s going to take multiple failed runs and taking the small knowledge you learned from that time you use it in the next. Just repeat that until you get it right. I also have played a game called “OSU!” A rhythm game which I had played for about 2–3 years and consistency was key for that game I had plateaued for so long had to been months of almost no improvements. You get a ranking and I felt like it never moved at all. Eventually one week I was just really feeling it and started to sky rocket in ranking and got pretty high up within the top 70k player in a 15mil+ player count game.
I’ve had to just wake up on that knowledge again. I’ve lost so much motivation to learn new things for awhile. The career I’m in can pay the bills well it’s just not what I want to do. I just want to document my journey and talk about/discuss things while I’m learning. For mental notes and self progress so I don’t feel stagnant on what I actually know.
I’m hoping I can eventually help others learn coding. I feel like I’ve struggled with learning it even though I’ve always gravitated toward it.
