Hello, I’m excited to share my experience and insight in data science through this Medium account.
A s someone that has interest in business, I spent the past five years exploring my entrepreneurial mindset and started three businesses during my college years.
However, it wasn’t until April 2022 that I discovered coding and fell in love with it.
Initially, I didn’t stumble upon data science right away. As I took Computer Science courses at the University of Washington, I delved into various aspects of software engineering, such as front-end and back-end development. I was having a hard time of considering which area should I dive deep into, because all of them are interesting to me.
It was in November 2022 that ChatGPT was released, and soon after, I discovered the field of data science. It became evident to me that data science combines my interests in business and computer science, prompting me to embark on this new path.
Iam attracted to data science because it combines computer science and business in a balanced way.
As a work introvert, I enjoy diving into problems and finding creative solutions on my own. However, I also value the presentation and discussion aspects of being a data scientist, as they allow me to effectively communicate my findings.
My background in sales and business has been invaluable in developing my communication skills. I was born shy and introverted, but those experiences helped me become confident in conveying my thoughts and using persuasive techniques to engage with others.
I see data science as a tech-savvy detective work, much like my admiration for Sherlock Holmes. Working with data, extracting meaning, and piecing together the puzzle is what excites me.
Data science enables me to combine my problem-solving abilities with effective communication skills. It’s a field where I can continuously grow, make a meaningful impact, and satisfy my curiosity for unraveling mysteries.
Iam a person driven by a strong desire to acquire knowledge swiftly. Upon stumbling into the world of data science, I became determined to become proficient in the field within a short time frame.
To achieve this goal, I have pursued various learning paths, including:
- Udemy: Valuable in gaining practical knowledge and skills in data science.
- YouTube: Resource to build a roadmap for my learning journey, discovering tutorials, expanding on learning topics.
- Towards Data Science: Articles, case studies, and community discussions that have deepened my understanding of data science concepts.
There are a few more in additions, but these are a few that I follow religiously.
I
believe that understanding the inner workings of models like Linear Regression and Gradient Descent is crucial. In the past, I believed that getting a model up and running was a daunting task. However, I soon realized that it involved using simple functions like .fit()
and .predict()
.
While it’s true that most models are now readily available in libraries, and it’s easy to fit data into them, I strongly believe that comprehending how the model arrives at its answers is essential. This understanding becomes particularly valuable when we encounter situations where the model fails to predict outcomes that align with our expectations. In such cases, having a deep understanding of the model’s workings allows us to identify and address the issues effectively.
To illustrate this understanding, I have built a basic Linear Regression model from scratch. It serves as an example of my commitment to grasping the intricacies of data science algorithms and their practical implementations.
Looking ahead, I have several exciting aspirations in the field of data science.
My immediate focus is to fully comprehend the intricacies of machine learning models. Armed with this knowledge, I plan to apply it to real-world scenarios and solve day-to-day problems using machine learning techniques.
Moreover, I have a keen interest in applying data science to the fields of bio-medicals and web3.
I can see immense opportunity in leveraging data science to drive advancements in healthcare and biomedical research.
I am also intrigued by the emerging field of web3, which explores the intersection of blockchain technology and data science. I aim to explore how data science can play a transformative role in this decentralized ecosystem, opening up new possibilities for trust, security, and privacy.
I am really excited for what lies ahead. If you are interested, feel free to follow me here on Medium, or on my Github.
