Looks like the hypemen are out in full force. Overselling, any and everything as some revolutionary tech that will change the course of how we do things. The new buzzword chatgpt.
Now this new technology is supposed to replace humans as it can write essays, scripts, write code, answer questions and add contextual responses to query’s.
However, Ai isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
AI, while in some cases a useful tool will never replace humans. Why? because only humans will replace humans. And robots cannot think or have intent.
On a assembly line a robot can do a simple repetitive task like pick up a heavy item, or tape a box shut. These can increase productivity for the company because you can scale faster, however robots often get stuck and need human assistance to get started again. These machines contain many moving parts and often go offline requiring specialized repair.
We have entered a paradox! The solution creates another problem, and a human is needed.
The issue with AI as software
This is more technical but AI use with applications on devices is just not useful. I hardly know anyone who uses voice assistant like Siri or Alexa. And the use of machine learning algorithms is just fancy speak for pattern recognition. When using these algorithms on social media or YouTube platforms the algorithm will literally keep you in an eco chamber. it will introduce you to the same ideas constantly Making users more polarized And less willing to accept new information.
(This is probably intentional)
The all new chatgpt!
Chatgpt while impressive technology, isn’t going revolutionize the world. Chatgpt is nothing more than a gimmick. Like the light up toys I buy my kids on 4th of July. Cool but not useful. The text response chatgpt generates is kind of robotic. It’s based off a database so it can’t learn new information or engage in philosophical debate. It’s also biased to certain types of information. If your lazy I guess it could be useful. But if you like creating new things. We still need you soldier.
While we can find some uses for these new technologies overall robots and algorithms can’t do much. sci-fi movies created the perception that robots would take over the world. im disappointed to say, my robot vaccum can’t even avoid getting stuck under the couch.
